Tick tock, change your clock!

Oct 28, 2016 | Moving, Professional Shredding, Storage Info

It’s a line we’ve all heard before but… by gum the nights are certainly coming in!

There is a definite nip in the air, shelves are beginning to fill with festive fare and the clocks are about to fall back. It’s customary for this change to happen every annum on the final weekend in October and this year we will gain that precious extra hour on the 30th of the month.

The moving of the clocks was first introduced during World War One by Germany and Austria, and then by the allies, to save on coal usage. It was Clock Changeinvented by George Vincent Hudson, a New Zealand entomologist in 1895, while British businessman William Willett is also credited with the idea as a way of getting up earlier and so having more daylight hours after work. While the UK has practiced daylight savings time since it was first introduced, it became popular worldwide during the 1970s as a result of the energy crisis.

Now that we know why we have the extra hour, we must decide what to do with that extra 60 minutes. Of course it might be tempting to enjoy a cosy lie in but we have a few other options in mind.

Have a clear out – Christmas is coming up and whilst we’re very excited for Santa and Co. to arrive, it also means an influx of more STUFF. Ahead of the season why not have a good old autumn clean. If you need boxes to keep your bits and bobs in, why not come along to one of our storage worlds based in Leeds, Wakefield and Harrogate to pick some up. Once those boxes are full you can decide whether to keep them at home or make more space by leasing a storage unit with us. Units are cheaper than you may think with prices beginning at only £6 per week, sizes also range massively starting at those the size of an under stairs cupboard right up to that of a tennis court.

Shred, shred, shred – Many of us are guilty of keeping documents, leaflets and magazines piled high across our homes and work places. It may be beneficial to spend an hour sorting through the paper mountains ahead of their safe disposal. We have special shredding bags that are just waiting to be filled up at your leisure. When you’re ready simply bring the full bags back to us, once here the contents will be shredded in secure CCTV monitored buildings.

House hunt – Are you feeling ready for a change but just can’t find the time to begin the search? Take some time to look through property websites or register to mailing lists. Once you’ve found your dream pad we are on hand to help make your move as seamless as possible. Our removals service was established more than 40 years ago and we are proud to be the largest privately owned removals company in Yorkshire. We know exactly what we’re doing and will ensure your move is as easy as pie!

Who knows, if you spend some time making positive changes you may save a few more hours in the future! With all of that in mind perhaps that hour in bed is looking less appealing?
