The latest in our Feature Location series heads towards the Yorkshire Dales and the West Yorkshire village of Addingham. Formerly known as Haddincham and Odingehem, Addingham is located on the River Wharfe and is only a mile outside the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

Addingham is widely seen as an area for families and for retirement with the 2001 census showing that just under 10% of Addingham’s population was over the age of 75 which is higher than the borough and national average. Much of Addingham is relies upon local businesses and enterprises for its amenities but in 2013 a national supermarket brand opened in the village. There are also a number of local pubs and eateries as well.

Transport Links near Addingham
Bus – There are regular bus services that link Addingham with nearby Ilkley and Keighley as well as further afield to Skipton and central Leeds. There are also less frequent services into the Yorkshire Dales to Grassington.
Rail – Addingham’s own railway station was closed down in 1965. There have been suggestions of an extension of the Bolton Abbey Steam Railway to a redeveloped Addingham train station to revitalise Addingham’s railway links. But meanwhile the nearest station to Addingham is in Ilkley with direct links to Leeds and Bradford
Air – The closest airport to Addingham is Leeds Bradford Airport which is around a half an hour drive away via the A65.
Leisure & Attractions if Moving to Addingham
Addingham is ideally located for a number of attractions known across the region. These include the estate of Bolton Abbey which attracts a large number and families and walkers to its ruins and parklands each year. Within the parklands is Strid Wood which has one of the most dangerous stretches of water in the country known as The Strid. Further afield are the natural wonders of the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
Addingham itself supplies its own attractions with it’s the annual village gala taking place every July since at least 1960. Each year the Gala takes a different theme and features races, parades, rides and stalls.
